Do the electronic versions make you put something in every line, because I am not sure what is supposed to go on some lines or some blocks on forms for property depreciation, etc? It might take me forever to figure out what goes on some lines and blocks that I have left blank for years with no complaints from the IRS if I have to fill in all to get thru the form. Electronic should be no problem on the State once I get the Federal done.
I drop the big box of paperwork off at the accountant, along with a check for 250 bucks, He calls me a week later and tells me how much less I have to pay this year.
What is this return you all speak of?

I always do my banking personally. Paychecks included. I heard that if you have direct deposit, you also have direct withdrawal. Don't know if that's true.
I also will be losing my CPA to retirement soon. That will be a bummer. On the bright side, my house will be paid off in 2 years. Looks like short form after that.
Turbo tax for the first time this year. Did them on the 24th of JAN, had them by the 10th of FEB, and 11th of FEB for my state. It was pretty easy, considering, I had a 1098, and a Roth IRA. Buying the truck parts as I type!
Turbo Tax online for me. I've used it for years. It's nice that it already knows all my pertinent info and just asks questions and I answer them. My taxes have been pretty simple as an employee of a large corporation. Next years will be a little more complex as I'm in the middle of buying my first house, but I can image it being very difficult.
I think it will be just as easy as before, just maybe a few added steps. It wasn't that hard with school loans and a Roth IRA. Something to look into though, I see you are in Cali, so if you installed solar power on the house, you could be eligible for a fairly big tax break. Just something to look into!
I started with a program from Parsons Technology, back in the late '80s. Bought several of their programs. Small company out of Iowa with stellar support (back when you could actually talk to someone on the phone who knew his ASCII from second base). Back then you still had to file paper, but it was a LOT easier and more accurate than paper. Unfortunately they ultimate got bought up by Intuit, so I used their product, whichever that was (TurboTax, IIRC). Then they started loading up their product with adware / spyware, so I dumped it; last few years I've used TaxAct.
Been filing online almost ever since they started it, I don't even remember what year that was.
Turbo tax last 5 years after having a CPA before that paying 650 a year. I had more employees back then so hence the switch to TT. Also use Quicken so that keeps it simple.
