Hi all
Im in need of some parts for my 1985 f350 6.9l diesel
These were never bought out here in australia the only ones here are imported so i am having trouble sourcing parts.
I would like to overhaul the cooling system as i believe it is running a little to hot.
Can someone please recommend a place in the states where i can order a
Radiator
Water pump
Thermostat
Top and bottom hoses.
Many have had good luck with Rockauto.com. I do not know about overseas customers, but here, one can "Google" Rockauto discounts and obtain a code which provides a 5% discount towards the purchase.
Excellent thanks for that. rock auto look good postage is a killer but i guess im going to have to live with it.
Does anyone know where i can get a brass radiator like the factory one im not to keen to put an alloy one in as i know of several people that have had them fail in no time at all our higher ambient temps most prob pay a part in it.
Cheers
Rod
Do you have radiator shops over there? We have over here and they can clean your old one out, or unsolder the tanks and put a new core center section in. The original radiators are very large and heavy, and the problem you are going to have is shipping damage.
I will warn you, on these engines a big culprit for overheating is the fan clutch. When it gets hot, you should here it kick in, it sounds like a jet airplane under the hood when it locks up. If you have some wetness around the fan clutch, the fluid may have leaked out and it's now not locking up. Usually with this problem, it will overheat when pulling a load.
Mine failed and I just made some L brackets and bolted the fan solid to the pulley, now it's locked all the time.
Yep we have radiator shops here i took it into one and they have quoted me $1500 aud to replace my fins and use my top and bottom tank. I think this is a crazy price hence why im looking for a new one.
I will be replacing the fan clutch also. Just trying to find a store where i can buy most of the parts.from so im not paying freight from to many suppliers.
Cheers

1500AUD is insane. In a good rad shop that is at most a 500USD job. AT MOST. Probaby around 300usd.
Try and find a shop that deals in heavy equipment and try and not tell them what it is for. Shops like to hear "rare" "cannot get in this country" types of repairs....they add zeros to the ends of prices.

Do you need a radiator? Is it leaking? When you look down inside, does it have a bunch of white stuff coating it on the inside?
Another trick a radiator shop told me to do to check and see if a radiator is clogged;
Drain the radiator
Take the lower radiator hose off.
Get someone to help you and get a bucket of water or a water hose.
Take the palm of your hand and use it to plug off the bottom radiator outlet. While you are doing that, get the other person to fill the radiator with water.
Once it's full, quickly pull your hand away from the lower outlet.
The water should come out full force, filling the total volume of the outlet pipe. If it sort of gurgles and doesn't come out full force, then the radiator is clogged.
I will be taking it to a industrial rad shop today and see what they say.
Yeah defenatly need a new one it is gummed up and has several leaks in the fins.
