Usually these windows are already broken and go un-noticed before you get it your truck and then the air pressure from the door will blow out the broken glass. Tempered glass can handle cold and hot temperatures. Usually if the glass is still mostly in place you can spot the impact point. I show this to customers all the time. If you got a dealer to warranty broken tempered glass you're lucky, if not just call your local glass shop that is what most dealers will do. The F150 rear window is bolted in with soft butyl sealant. If you had to do it yourself it is fairly simple after you remove the interior.
Maybe if I would've seen the glass broken when getting in my truck or later going down the road but since the truck was on my driveway backed to the garage door I don't think so. I heard that glass pop like a firecracker while seating still on the driveway.
Mine blew out last week with the defroster on. Smooth road, doors closed & HVAC not set on recirc. Replaced today via $100 deductible. (I hope this is not a duplicate post because I tried to edit my last post & it disappeared.) Tech said to keep an eye out because a recall should be in the works ... said he has replaced several.
EDIT TO ADD: 2010 FX4 SCAB Also, when I called my "parts guy" at my favorite Ford dealer, he told me there was a mid-year part number change and couldn't order me one until I gave him my VIN. I then called their body shop & they suggested I conatct my insurance agent because they farm out all their glass-work anyway.
What years is this future recall? I would assume this problem is with the right or left window and not the center? Doesnt matter if the ignition is on or not? Power slider or manual?
Just need to be informed for any customers show up with this or if mine blows up of course
