Element is ugly. But I respect them, very very useful for someone like me. My only gripe is that it's a little to low to the ground. They did that so that it would be more aero for fuel efficiency, and so you can wheel it like a car around corners (more or less) with truck like interior.
Depending on what you do...so useful.
I mountain bike, and thats the primary market. "Outdoorsy (new word) people who are starting out, and don't have that big fifth wheel and power boat."
More for tent camping in the bush

ps. though I think plastic is ugly, the mountain bike mags said they liked how they could lean their bikes on it and not scratch the paint.
You can say what you want about its looks but its appealing to the younger crowd and is selling like crazy. Ford can learn a thing or two about selling to the younger generation.... look at how they blew it with the Focus launch.
I wish the escape was the element heh. The fact that you can put your bikes inside instead of the roof (and all the seats fold away!!) It's a great thing, the built in sub in the dash is a niec bonus to.
And did I mention waterproof seats lol. One reviewer for Mountain Bike said he spilt his gatorade all over the seat in the parking lot of a race and he just wiped it up, no biggie.
They are AWD. Not 4x4 but close enough for their intended use.
And for hunting, I dunno I think my neighbour has the ultimate hunting truck.
F350 SRW reg. cab long box (2003 model) black with limo'd windows and a black cap. with a big rack on the roof for putting the animals (i believe) oh did I mention its 4x4 and PSD ?
I too think that the Element is an ugly vehicle. What could possibly posess someone to want one of these things. One of the things I look at is curb appeal. But of course this vehicle will sell like hotcakes to the yuppie/urban crowd. I am sure it woon't be long before we see one of these slammed with dubs and a wing claiming low 12's at the track.......
You guys really think its going to appeal the rice burning crowd? The ones who think 4cyl hot rods own?
I still think that it will be used as a recreational vehicle by younger people who don't have toys that require a big truck for there outdoor adventures...
I asked a friend that has one, "when are you going to finish painting it?". But after spending a little time in it, it is hard not to like - much more utility than most SUV's.
