I am trying to get it to add up to 5000, how do you do that?

In my case it was simple, I didn't use a calculator and it came up to 5000.

 

4090 + 10 = 5000
Some may be inclined to mix up the 10's & the 100's place.

As for me, not one of those questions tripped me up. Try harder next time! It was amusing, though.

 

4090 + 10 = 4100, not 5000.

I wasn't saying that it = 4100, but showing the "mental mistake" the author of the joke/riddle (whatever you want to call it) was relying upon. You knew that and were just busting my chops, right?
