I have an 84 f250 4x4 and i'm looking to get some better shocks. I am looking for something heavy duty because I carry a lot of stuff and plan on doing some towing. I don't, cant afford to, do offroad stuff so its mainly street driving with the occasional camping trip. Any recommendations?
I also am interested in recommendations for good dampers for towing, no off roading (2x4 86 Crew cab 250). I suspect I can go higher on price also, but I don't want to raise the truck or anything like that.
Not sure if they offer these for a 4x4 f250, but I love the KYB Monomax shocks that I put on my "non-ford truck" that I use for plowing and offroading. My truck gets beat on and they seem to do their job nicely.
Under 1984 f250 RockAuto Parts Catalog shows them listed for "RWD" trucks, ~$54 each, look like this
When I get around to replacing the ones on my f150, i'll probably use these again.
I looked some more and it doesn't look like those Monomax shocks are available for the 4x4 f250, which is odd... They do have the "Gas-a-just" ones which are just the next step down from the monomax. Rockauto has them for ~$37 each.
Bilstein lists their 4600 series for the 4x4 and I've heard good things about them, but They're also $77 EACH at summit racing.
I ordered some Bilstein 4600 shocks today, gonna have them installed on Thursday. I'll update people with how I like them after that. I choose the Bilstein largely because they have a reputation for making really good shocks.
Awesome, I want to hear how they run. I have herd a lot of good things about the senca shocks to. I am going to put them on our family mini van so maybe my truck to.

Ok, got the new Bilsteins installed today. I have to say, the difference is greater than I expected. Turns out my front shocks were completely shot and the rears were not in too great of shape either (I thought the rears were in poor shape and the fronts weren't too bad from exterior inspection). It was really hard to gauge just how bad they were without a solid basis for comparison (I've only had this truck for two or three months) but the difference is night and day.
I'd also heard that the 4600s were pretty stiff but bumps are not jarring or anything like that. Overall the impression I get driving the truck is that it is just "tighter".

Great to hear. If you happen to have any spare cash rolling around. I'd greatly appreciate a set
