Hey guys this is the first time I've posted on the powerstroke side of things. I mainly creep around on the 73-79 side. Do any of you have a BTS transmission. My truck is mainly stock I have 4in straight pipe and a ts6 chip and that's pretty well it. My trans is real weak and I wanna get something that will hold up. I wanna get a tranny built before I upgrade anything else. I have heard he builds all his transmissions the same just tunes them different. Is that right? So does that mean if I get my trans built while on the set up and go and build the engine some time down the road that means he will tune it and I will be ok??
Thanks in advance. BTW my truck is a 1995 F-250 7.3 w/auto trans.
I just had mine built 2 weeks ago by brian, (BTS), and I can't say that he builds them all the same, we talked awhile before he started on it about what I use the truck for, what my plans for it were power wise ect, and he built then he built it, my understanding it that he builds them to withstand about 500 HP. the tuning he does will set different HP levels for the engine and different shift points based on street driving, towing, or racing... He did a great job with mine and it was interesting being able to see the process, look up my thread it's probably still on the first or second page here, it's called BTS Trip Nearing, Update Thread
Ok well another thing I was wondering is I will probably take a week of work when the time comes. Is there a motel or something I can stay at while the truck is in the shop? How long is your truck in the shop for?
There isn't locally, the town he's near is about 300 people, he moved down there from witchia kansas to be near the lake... he gets you in and out in a day, he started on mine at 8 and was done about 430.... he has a guy who helps him along the way.... he let me stay in the shop and watch them work but they also have a customer lounge with TV and recliners an what not.
branson mo is not far from there, probably 45min to 1hr if i had to guess.... lots of things to do there if you need a motel/hotel or some food other than gas station food...
Unless it happens to be john woods, you won't get the same internals.... they have custom produced parts that you can't get just anywhere from what I was told...
Depending how extreme you are going, you should consider a Ford reman HD E4OD. I've heard many good things about them. I have one that was rebuilt by a local transmission shop to match the HD E4OD and its held up well, but I'm basically stock.
The Ford HD trans is cool because it is a Ford warranty that is good at any Ford dealer in the country.
With that said, BTS builds one hell of a trans. I wouldn't hesitate for a split second to run one in any of my trucks. I have one waiting to go in my race truck.
