I have a 1999 ford expedition with an overheating and no heat issue. I have filled the reservoir with coolant. It was showing low so I added about a gallon of 50/50. I did hear gurgling when doing so. Once the vehicle should have been warm, for a brief couple of seconds there was heat. The heat stopped and the temperature gauge began to slowly rise. What could this be? If this is an air pocket what would be the easiest resolution?
no, no leaking no smells, and it is still full. I just tried driving it again. When sitting still the blower blows cold air instead of heat. After driving it a couple of minutes the temp gauge begins to rise and can fill a little heat. Could this be the thermostat sticking? I even felt the hose. They warmed up a little but did not get hot before I drove it.

The overheating could be due to the t-stat sticking closed, but it would not give you cold heat, in fact just the opposite. An overheating engine gives scorching hot heat. I think your problem is all about a lack of coolant, or coolant flow. The water pump impeller likely broke loose from the pump shaft.
