Hello all! Im new to the site so thanks for havin me. So heres the question and any help would be great, I found a ford escape in great condition other than the fact the head gasket is blown. The truck has high mileage but everything seems to be mint. Im going to have another look at it in a couple days and just wondering what i should be looking for to see how serious it is. Im going to tackle the head gasket job myself so is there anything i can look for now to see if its just the gasket that needs to be replaced or if its going to be more in depth ie. pistons, rings, block, crank, cylinders... The truck is a 2001 escape 3.0l xlt 4wd
yeah i didnt think so but im getting it for $600 so the headache would be worth it if its just the gasket... just not sure if when i get it back together the trannys gunna be slippin or somethin... so just seeing if theres ways of checking things to put the gamble more in my favor or just run...
If you pull the heads , they need to go to a machine shop to be checked . After all is said and done , a used engine may be a better choice . Who knows what you will find when you get into it . And , what caused the failure , water pump , radiator , heater core blew out and dumped all the coolant , fan issues , wiring to the fans , control issues with the fans .......
