I'm considering the purchase of a Microtuner for my 2K F150/5.4 which I absolutely love (this will be my 6th Ford pickup). My main purpose is to try tuning for better fuel mileage. I've already done an induction kit with favorable results. Performance is not an issue, as long as I don't loose any power. I have questions about the tuners usage. Must it remain hooked to the vehicle at all times? Can you tweak the timing and/or fuel rate in small increments? I'd prefer to stay with 89 octane. Is that possible? I understand that there are additional benefits to rewriting the chip like improved shifting, removal of top speed limiting, etc. I would appreciate any response from those of you that have had experience with these tuners. Thanks.
I think that it can be unhooked after setting up the ECM. You have to plug it back up to revert to the stock settings, but that is it. Once it is programmed, it will stay that was until the battery is diconnected or you unprogam it.

Thanks. I'm still concerned about the level of changes and the octane thing. I spoke to Superchip yesterday and they said that they are coming out with a Microtuner that will do what I want. It should be out by the end of the month. I'd still like to know of anyone's experiences with using one. Thanks again for the response.
Cool! Thanks for the info. I'll check it out. Do you know anything about this new tuner thats coming out? It's supposed to be geared towards guys who are looking to increase mileage and make minor modifications. Seems to me that it would be a huge market. Thanks again.
