Angry Burning oil - HELP!!!!

just took my 1999 f150 Lariat in for 30,000 mile service , told them at the dealer that I had to replace 2 qts oil in 3000 miles. they came back with that ford says the 5.4 will use about a qt every 900 miles. I have never had this with any other engine , is this a fact? Has ford put this in writing? anyone know?

Burning oil - HELP!!!!

They are just trying to get rid of you, stunovce. My youngest son and my dad both have the 5.4's in their trucks and never use a drop between changes. My dad runs M1 5W30 with 165K miles and my son runs Castrol 5W30 with 72K miles.
Does your engine smoke?

Burning oil - HELP!!!!

I've got about 43,000 miles truck.. never missed any oil in mine. They're feeding you a line. Tell them you want it in writing so you can fax their report to Ford corporate to review.

Burning oil - HELP!!!!

has any one changed your pcv vave lately? this little item can suck oil faster than he##, and not leave even a puff of smoke. i bought a 92 f150 a few years back, the owner was sure the engine was wasted in. she was using 3 qts. every 30000 miles, but had no smoke, rattel or rolls. this thing only had 55000 miles on to it,so i figured i would give it a shot,$7.00,and one pcv valve later, i had a truck that was using zero drops brtween changes. this guy was one sorry, but better educated seller after that.

Burning oil - HELP!!!!

I have a 91 Ranger with 185000+ miles on it and it only goes through about a quart of oil in about 3000-4000 miles. I wouldnt take the dealers 'word' about that crap. Like someone else said, theyre just trying to get you out the door so they can pull the wool over someone elses eyes...Id go to a few different Ford dealers and maybe an independent mechanic to get some different ideas on what it may be.

Angry Burning oil - HELP!!!!

WELL ,i CALLED ford AGAIN ABOUT THE 2QTS CONSUMED IN 3000 MILES , BECAUSE I NOW USED 1 QUART IN 600 MILES AFTER HAVING THE 30000 MILE SERVICE AND THEY PUT IN 5W20 OIL. GOT THE SAME STORY THAT THE DEALER IS CORRECT IF THEY SAY YOU SHOULD USE A QUART ABOUT EVERY 900 TO 1000 MILES.i ASKED FOR THAT IN WRITING FROM FORD DIRECT, THEY ARE GOING TO GET BACK TO ME ,AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE DEALER, AS TO WHERE HE GOT HIS INFORMATION. i THEN LAID THIS ON THEM, MY 2000 EXPEDITION WITH 59000 MILES, WITH A 5.4L ENGINE CONSUMES NO OIL ,WHY ? IF THE ENGINES SHOULD USE 1 QUART PER 900 TO 1000 MILES, WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN THE ENGINES?

i AM GOING TO TRY THE PCV VALVE AS MENTIONED AND IF THAT SOLVES THE PROBLEM I WILL BUY YOU (SORRY LOST YOUR NAME) A BOTTLE OF JACK DANILES OR WHAT EVER YOU DRINK . STUNOVCE

Burning oil - HELP!!!!

I began reading this post as I recently (like last week) switched to Mobile 1 5W30 from the Mobile 1 10W30 that I was using. Just wanted to follow along and see if there was an issue there. Now I see that if input is porvided on this board, we can be rewarded with free bottle of whiskey.
That being the case, please post all questions to my private email address, and I will respond with a somewhat logical but not necessarily correct answer, along with my mailing addrress and proper bottle packaging instructions.

Thanks.

Burning oil - HELP!!!!

Go back to the dealer and tell them it got progressively worse. It now uses a quart and a half every thousand miles. This is over their "benchmark" of one quart per 900. Complain louder this time.

If this works, I'll buy the drinks!

Of course that one quart per 900 miles is over 5 quarts in Fords 5,000 recommended oil change interval. As some people just drive until their next oil change, that is down right scary! I can't believe Ford would be saying this is normal?

Thanks Guys for responding to my posts, I am going back to ford AGAIN, This time as you sugguest telling them it has increased. Also while thinking about this ,if you go along with Fords 1quart in every 900 to 1000 miles ,and I keep the truck for 100,000 miles that means that it would cost me about $100,000 in oil at a minimum, verses approxamatly $700 if you srevice the truck every 5000 miles as ford says. Is that crasy or not? How can they justify this.

stunovce

Again you are a great bunch of people!!!
