Just curiosity, why would you want to eliminate the governor on a 460? The 460 is not a high reving engine at least in stock form. I think red line for 90s 460s is around 4,500 to 5,000 RPM. On my 94, anything over about 4,000RPM is really just thrashing around. 460s are known for rod problems above 5,000 at least for 90s.
As far as speed goes, I have never hit the governor on my 94 and I have had it up over 100, I think, speedo doesn't go that high. I wouldn't want to keep the truck over 100 very often since it isn't that great a speed vehicle.
Some computers can be reprogrammed to eliminate the governor. There might be reprogramming kits for yours or there might be a shop that can do it for you.
Unless you have modified your truck, I would see no reason for a governor to even be noticable during even moderately enthusiastic driving. If yours is kicking in at lower RPM or speed then maybe something else is going on?
that's interesting, I have not hit a governor with my 460 but then When I am going 100, I am usually accelerating and in 3rd so don't know if the computer is smart enough to govern it to 3,000 and 100mph in OD, in other words I am not in cruise mode and I am guessing the computer govers if at a steady speed. If it is the computer, it should be reprogrammable or chipable, I have just never seen the need and haven't looked. I have seen chip advertisements for 460s in Trailer Life Magazine, but don't know the details.
