Nitrous Qs

Know i want to get a nitrous system (NOS sniper) and run a 100hp shot of the laughing gas. Now i know that Nitrous is hard on the motor and causes premature wear. What i need to know is what exactly is nitrous hard on? Is it the bearings? And what does it do to the pistons? Oh berfore i forget i am getting a 429 rebuilt in the next couple months so i can do anything to reinforece the motor for the nitrous.

Thanks for any info.

With the exception of needing to use forged pistons, a 429 should have no problem taking a 100 shot. You could even get away with stock pistons if you are easy with the nitrous.

I have been told that a stock 429 crank and block are good for about 650-700 horsepower with no mods.

What rods are you planning on using? You should try to find a set of CJ rods or 76 and up truck rods from a 460.

George should be able to jump in here and tell you more.

My dad has several 460s and such in a shed at my grandpas so i can get a hold of those rods but pprobably not a set CJ ones though.

BTW i have not decided on what is going to go into the 429 as of yet but i want to make at least 400hp then the nitrous.

What are you planning on doing with the motor? If you are just looking for a 400hp BB, I would suggest starting out with a 460 if you are going to completely rebuild it anyway.

I believe that the truck rods are equal to the CJ rods the casting number I think is D6TE-AA.

Go take a look at all the motors you have and let us know what the casting numbers on the heads are. We can tell if you have some that might be better than others.

What i do know is that the 460s are all truck motors that are post 73, and two are 4barrels and 2 are 2barrels. As for getting the 400hp, it will be the usual such as cam, intake, exhaust, carb, port and polish, bored .03 over, and we are thinking of possibly stroking it out using 460 parts (but probably not). Anyway the reason why we are using the 429 is that its not rusted or siezed, or as had mice crawling around it, nor has it been sitting outside. All of the 460s we have are seized and have been sittin in a shed that has way too many mice in it for 20+ years. And plus this motor has the intake exhaust and carb already on it.

The two with 2 barrel intakes are 429's.

Use the rods from one of the truck motors.
