I believe deep in my soul we could eliminate soooooooooooo many traffic accident issues simply by cell phone signal jamming capability built into ALL vehicles while the vehicle is in motion. Stop the distracted driving and we MIGHT have slightly more attentive drivers---maybe?
and no need for jammers to be built into cars, a motion sensor in the phone that shuts the signal off over 3 mph will work just fine.
although it maybe should be one mph, so people will stop walking into things while on the phone.

MN has moved distracted driving to the top of the list for accidents now that enforcement has slowed down the DWIs. Besides cell phones, they could make the infotainent stuff a lot less complex.
They also claim enforcement as the main reason for a lot of the downward trends in accidents. I tend to agree. I am not a big fan of the ADAS stuff (advanced driver assistance systems).
As far as the self drivers, they keep bragging, but I'm not sure how well they're progressing. Carbon based life forms have a lot of problems, but I'm pretty sure that we get the big picture more accurately. The NHTSA says that vehicle deaths are one per 100 million miles traveled (it might even be 200 million, I forget). Seems like a pretty high bar.
