axle ratios for school essay

I'm writing an essay for my history class comparing and contrasting the 1948 ford f1 and the 1987 f150. I need to know all the rear axles and rear axle ratios that were available in 1987. I believe it was just the 8.8 and 9 inch in the f150's? I'm a bit of a procrastinator when it comes to school work cause i usually come home and work on something rather than do school work and this has to be a 1500 word essay and it'd dur Friday and I just started it today......... so any help is useful

3.08, 3.55, 4.10 were the most common axle ratios in the '90's era trucks.

Biggest differences...
Discuss the addition of 4wd, safety features, creature comforts and numerous generations of the trucks.

Don't think their was a ford 9" in 87-96 trucks (pretty sure they stopped in 84ish but not 100% sure as I stopped hanging around the bullnose club when we got rid of our 86) however a lot of people like to stick 9" rears in the 87-96 trucks and 40s trucks I believe. That is what I would personally do at least.

I have a 9 inch rear end in my truck from an 83 but I wasn't sure if ford made 9 inches in 87-91 or if it was just the 8.8 or???

There is a listing for an open 2.73 rear axle ratio 8.8". I seem to recall a post or two from people crippled with that awful gear ratio.

FWIW our old '97 Mustang GT came with that ratio from the factory. The swap to 3.73 made the car come alive.

Dana 44 is the only front axle I have seen in this vintage truck. The Twin Traction Beam is a derivative of that.

1987 F-150 came with the 8.8 rear axle, and a D-44 ifs front axle in the 4X4.
available gear ratios were:
2.73
3.08
3.55
3.73
4.10
there was also front and rear limited slip differentials available, but the front LS diff is a pretty rare animal to find.

3.73 was not listed in my Ford service manuals prior to 1996. On the other hand I found some listings for 3.31 after 1993...

I do not recall anyone posting they had factory 3.73 gears on this forum
