I am looking for a original 51 taillight assembly. Found one on a trailer (cut dwon truck) and went to ask about it. That trailer sold that day to someone. Well anyone know of original for sale, single left hand 51' truck? thanks
THe originals did not have the blue dot in them. That was a add on item that was popular in the 50's. You can get repo tail lights thru many of the repo suppliers and probably thru the store right on this site.
Have you tried our host Motorhaven? Or Mid-Fifty or dennis Carpenter Dearborn Classics or L & M Truck or any of the other suppliers mentioned on the forum? I'm sure yo can get what you want there.
I believe the 48-52 pickups used the same tail lights as the 33-36 cars. As the guys said, the blue dot tail light lens is available from many different suppliers.
As a side note, I just removed mine and replaced the original all red lens in my tail lights. After being rear-ended a year ago, I've come to the conclusion that the blue dot washes out in bright sunlight making the light very difficult to see during daytime hours. They are super cool during dusk to dark hours. I use my truck all the time and I've had too many people run up on me during the daytime. Seems like they can't see the turn signals or brake lights - and I'm running 2357 bulbs.
