I'm new to the diesel scene but not to the super duty line, I just got rid of an "04" V-10 with 152000 on the clock and I ran full synthetic oil in it from day one. Now I have a "15" 6.7 and trying to get every thing for the oil change and I'm at a loss at what kind of oil I should use? On a diesel does full synthetic make a difference in the long run or should I just stick with the standard oil?
You'll never go wrong running Rotella T6 5w40 I've ran it for years in all my diesels. It's held up well in UOA. I'd run that factory fill oil until the truck tells you to change it. I may just be a weird coincidence but on my 2012 truck I drained the factory fill and replaced with synthetic at 1500 miles. It showed more wear metals throughout it's life than the 13 which I ran the factory fill until it told me to change it the first time then I switched. Not saying it's a huge deal just my experience.
As all others have said. I changed today with Rotella T6 5-40W. I have used this on all changes since day 1. I just turned 110,000 on my 11 and problem free.

Oil threads are fun!!!!
Run motorcraft diesel oil in my '12 ......amazingly have not had an oil related engine failure!!!!
What's even more amazing is I've run motorcraft semi-syn(mostly because it was cheap at wally world)in maybe a dozen modular motors, including a v-10 in a 35' class A, and yet no problems.
Today's Dino oils are more than adequate to protect our motors when factory oci's are followed.
I seem to recall a motorcraft vs rotella comparo on the oil website..... Little to no difference in the OA's.

Yea I think that Motorcraft stuff is actually pretty good. There was a guy on the 6.0 forum that had run his truck for 600,000+ miles on that oil before he rebuilt the motor. What got me started on the 5w40 was my 6.0 it ran so much better on that stuff with the HEUI fuel system. I'm sure a 6.7 doesn't show much difference being a CRD. Ford recommends a 5w40 for severe duty and that's what my truck does for a living so I figure I'll listen to them. One thing I've noticed is that on both 6.7s I've owned with a combined mileage of 160,000 miles I've never got the typewriter tick after oil change noise. I don't know if thats due to the oil or I just got good trucks lol but there it is.
I do love these oil discussions though. They are on just about every forum. I think the most particular ones are the TDi forums though. Some of those purists treat you like your dumping sand in your motor if you don't run VW spec.
I like T6 - and see nothing wrong with Motorcraft either. I follow the manual and with Extreme use you should go syn and the temperatures I operate it are typically extreme use schedule. I have no special love for shell, it does happen to be one of the cheaper synthetics out there and is available almost everywhere. (Especially in Wal-Mart).
Took me awhile to get used to 7k oil changes too, which is what the computer tells me I should change the oil at. Syn at least makes me feel a little better about it.
Stick with the Motorcraft (and their filters) and you will never have a debate with a 'service' tech that you are using the wrong oil. If you don't have Wally World or other decent DIY access to that oil, then Rotella is the second best choice and always found in farm supply stores (and what I use in my little ISEKI diesel tractor for 25 years).
Debates will rage on as far as change intervals and oils, but the OEM owner's manual is always, IMO, the correct guide regardless.
