So my 1981 f100 i6 2wd with the c6 has decided even after a flush and filter. To still slip in first once I've been driving for about 20 minutes and it's nice and warmed up. Someone at some point put a 77 c6 in my truck it seems based on the d7**** numbers that were on the valve body when I opened it I think anyway. Now since I've had issues with both my trans and oil dipstick reading wrong since I got the truck. Is it possible for it to be slipping because it's over filled even though nothing is coming out the vent?
If that isn't the cause what is my best course of action with minimum down time to get a reman trans or a replacement at a low cost. I don't have time to pull it and have it rebuilt since this is my daily. I have a month to play before my money comes in if it matters I'm in the Tampa Bay area in Florida I'm working with a budget of 1300 max but hoping for as cheap as possible. Any advice is helpful.
A part or component having a D7 prefix means it was *designed in* 1977, and it very well could have been used for several years (even decades) afterwards.
IOW this has no bearing on the year of manufacture of the transmission as a whole.
Used transmissions are advertised on Craiglist around here frequently, but you really don't know what you are getting - regardless of what the seller says. However, $200 or so will usually get one that is said to be working.
Next up in price would be a salvage, and they typically offer a guarantee that it works or they'll give you another one.
And, there are rebuilders in most cities that will sell you one with a waranty and you return yours within a few days to them for rebuilding for the next guy. In my area many of those rebuilders advertise on Craigslist.
Here's a bunch of places in Florida that have a used transmission for sale.

I appreciate it yall I don't know how to rep otherwise I would. I don't think I'll be going used or salvage since this is my DD I was more hoping for people's experience with rebuilders or reman shops that will provide me with a transmission and I return the core for a good price. Otherwise I know I have enough to replace it with probably a TCI transmission and torque converter to guarantee I won't have issues going forward.

I don't know about any quality shops, but you could go ahead and buy one from the junkyard, take it down to the shop and let them go through it, and then get it back and put it in.
Check before doing this though. I checked a good local shop in my area about rebuilding my tranny if I took it out and brought it to them and they said "sure, but we will not warranty it". I said why? and they said the tranny cooler needs to be properly cleaned out or it will ruin the rebuilt tranny. And it was going to only save $100 pulling it and putting it back in myself.
A guy I worked with got one of those mail order trannies with a warranty, and he had to install a filter in the cooler line or they would not warranty it.
I plan on putting in a brand new aftermarket cooler no matter what route I'm taking my concern is if I get a used and get it rebuilt it will almost cost as much as a brand new TCI unit with torque converter so I figure I may as well grab one of those.
While you are waiting for your replacement C6.
Put a bottle of Lucas trans treatment in it.
It may well even get ya a few more years.
But it's really just a band aid. But works damn well.
I think with what you described this will do ya fine
until ya get it replaced.

I would be surprised if the local shop could not do it for you cheaper. That's a old school tranny, it shouldn't cost very much. Everyone wants overdrive now.
