Hey all, started a basic rebuild of my engine today and found after pulling the head that 4 of the coolant passages on the passenger side were plugged solid. The temp gauge has always kinda wandered around from "normal" (about a third of the way up) to 2/3 to 3/4 of the way up. Coolant system works fine so I figured it was just the gauge being old and loopy, now I'm wondering if the blocked passageways had something to do with it.
I'm somewhat short on time and am hoping very much to not have to pull the block so I was wondering if there was a way of checking the block without pulling it and bringing it to a machine shop.
Long winded opinions, ideas perspectives are always welcome
Thanks!
To check straightness, place a machinist's straight edge across the block and then grab some feeler gauges and see if you can slip them underneath the straight edge. The block must be completely clean and debris-free.
If you pulled the head, for whatever the reason, just drop it off at the machine shop. I'm sure it has some warpage. Just let them mill it and rework the head over. Some $'s saved and time if it needs to be pulled again. Its no fun the 2nd time around.
