I know I can use the tech article on Disc brake upgrades but someone said they put 78 Ibeams on their 67 with disc already on them is this possible to do is there any problems or trade offs for doing this he said it all bolted up but I have also herad that they are a little longer if so is it enough to matter ?
If the data tag on both trucks specifies the same front axle cap and both trucks are same model, ie F100/F150, or F250, or F350, they will interchange & fit all the way to 79.
This does not apply if either is a Trailer Special model, or a Camper Special Model, but does apply if both donor & recipient are the same model.
Axle length affect radius I swings & position of front coil springs along that radius @ different stages of expansion, collapse, or rebound. Axle lengths is usually specific to rated axle capacity, or model of truck they're on. Not necessarily to year of truck.
Although I'd say it's easier to swap spindles than entire I beam assemblies, unless you enjoy lots of hard needless work. FBp
I have i set of I beams from a 75 already off is why I am asking and the ones on my 67 would be pretty easy to change since it is a bare frame right now but thanks for the reply
I'm with Pat on that one. Iv'e done it and it is easy. You will need the rest of the brake system. When I did it I had the whole donor vehicle and used the master cylinder and the proportioning valve. The only modification was to cut and reflare one brake line as I needed the larger flare nut at the proportioning valve. This would also be a good time to make sure the I beams have new bushings.
Fordboy, I wasn't aware of different lengths of I-beams on camper specials, trailer specials ect. Do you have any other info on that since I was planning to put some 77 camper special I- beams under my 68 F-250 with the light duty 6200 gvw. I have never done an F-250 and didn't realize they weren't all the same length.
thanks guys I thought it would be easier too and I can get anything I want off the donor truck its my buddies yeah them kingpins are stubborn but anyway thanks for the info I appreciate it
