What kind of gas gauge do we have mine "stuck" the other day. It was about a 1/4 tank and I filled it up,but the needle didn't move. I tried turning it on and off, wiggling the wires on the top of the tank, and hitting the top of the tank. Nothing worked. I got out of work the next morning started the truck and it has been working ever since. Is there a slide in the tank that could have just hung up or is it all electrical.
I tried restarting it about 7 times and nothing happened. Then after it sat about 11 hours it was back to normal. It acted just like a float hung up. I'm not really worried about it yey anyway, I was just hoping someone had there tank down and could say weather there was a mechanical float or not. If it is through the gem module like you said it could lead to problems in the future.
I had this very problem a few weeks back also.
I was doing a little work adding some camper tie downs to the frame next to the gas tank. Afterwards I went to fill up and thats when I noticed the guage was stuck at 1/4 tank.
It s-l-o-w-l-y moved to full over the course of the next day and after driving for about an hour and has worked fine ever since.
I posted on the board and someone did say there was a float in these tanks. That might explain the length of time it takes to fix itself but why are they getting stuck to begin with?
There is a anti slosh circut which if you fill it with the key in run it can take up to 20 mins to reg properly..Floats don't usually stick in tanks but i'm not sure about the ford SD's
I have also had the same problem on occasion with my 2002 SD. The gauge has also gotten stuck on Full several times when the tank was actually down to about 3/4 full.
