Here's one I haven't seen a post about.My driver side p.d.l. switch
will lock and unlock the driver side door, but not the pass. side.
The pass. side switch locks and unlocks the driver side, but not the
pass. side.Is the pass. side actuator shot or possibly loose or
disconnected?
Where do I start?
Thanks
Pull the door panel & use a VOM to check & see if there's 12V going to the actuator when either/ both switches are used. If so, & the actuator motor fails to work, it's the actuator itself.
If you have zero up to less than 11.9V current it's the circuitry. I believe you can use "P-Car" actuators if you can find good ones in a salvage yard. . . .
They're pricey at Henrys' Place. . . . I use a pair from a late/ mid 90's Taurus in my 88 XL, & another pair of same in an 85 T-Bird Aero Coupe. Both interchange, plug & play & work great! FBp
Sounds like the passenger side actuator has come loose or gone bad. I found a posting on this topic from several months ago and they helpd me fix an identical problem with the exception being the left side did not work.
A clip riveted to the inside edge of the door panel holds the actuator in place. In short remove the door panel and reach inside the door to reattach it. My clip would let loose of the actuator after a week or two and I finally remedied the situation by feed a plastic cable tie behind and thorugh the clip and snugged up the actuator in it's holder. Be patient, this is all done by feel and it may take some finagling to get it in just right.
Something to note since we are on the subject of power door locks...if the passenger side switch is bad or not seated in the socket, it will disable BOTH switches. With the way the wiring is routed from one side of the truck to the other, removing the pass. side switch will effectively disable the power locks all together. I am currently working on a way to have that actually happen via a time delay relay so after I leave the truck, the power locks are inoperative. I have had BOTH wing windows in my '92 broken just so some idiot could jump in and try to swipe the stereo. With the location of the lock switches on the 92 and newer door panels, its an easy target. (break the vent window reach in and hit the button). I figure, if they want to break the glass I can't stop 'em, but I can darn sure make getting in after they do it more difficult.
