Just wondering if any of you guys are running a built '80-'86 2wd stepside truck. I had one almost ten years ago now, and I'm interested in looking for another one, but I'd like to see some pics of a few to help regain my interest, or give me some ideas.
The only question I can think of is, when did they actually start putting ball joints in the front ends? The one I had was an '80, and it had the front end with the king pins. Oh yeah, and was the wooden floor in the box just an option, or did they all come like that up to a certain year?
Any help would be great. thanks.
The Last Year of the wood beds on the flaresides was 86. I've got a pretty much stock 86 F150 flareside with a 302 EFI, 4spd, custom 5-star 15x10 wheels with 31.50" Goodyear M/T's and true duel's with 12" glasspacks and 3 1/2" tips. Here is a link to the only pics I have of my truck online at this time. http://hometown.aol.com/jstspurrme/page1.html
82 was the first year for balljoints. 87 was actually the last year of the wood bed FlareSide, they have fenders with the newer wheel lip and the whole nine yards, but, they are EXTREMELY rare.
This is my 81:
I bought it pretty much as it sits, slightly warmed over 302, 4 speed, duals, burnt out glasspacks(it's LOUD) 3.50 gears, and, 275/60R15's, I'm tempted to drop my 460 in there and have some real fun... LOL
I intend to put it back together somtime soon...
Engine is a 300 I-6, 9.1:1 compression, forged everything, ARP bolted and studded bottom end(head studs too), shotpeened rods, you name it, built to handle 30 PSI of boost. Currently is N/A with the stock 1bbl, headers, mostly for gas mileage purposes, it had a NP 435 behind it, and 2.75 gears, with 31x10.50's, 60 was 1900 RPM, and, 26 MPG wasn't out of reach....
