Which Ranger for like-new performance?
I am so sorry the Ranger was discontinued because now I really want one. It needs to be nearly bulletproof though. Tires and battery changes are okay but I don't want headaches... no dying, wobbling, CELs, tranny slip, electrical, etc. I only put 5,000 miles/yr on my cars. Lately, I'll buy new cars and drive them for ten years. I enjoy every one of those miles when they are trouble free.
I see Rangers on Craigslist, most have over 50,000 miles. Should I be looking at something like that? At what age can trouble start appearing?

I've got a 92 2.3L with the crank trigger and the distributorless ignition(California Car for smog etc) and I'm still driving it. I've replaced the clutch maybe 3 times and even though the 5 speed tranny didn't need it I rebuilt it once just cause I had the motor out. Rebuilt the motor once, but even then it wasn't burning oil or anything just a little down on compression and I wanted it better because I also used it for local amateur drag racing. BTW i reused the original pistons...they're still in there..as is all. I only replaced the bearings and ground the valves, balanced etc. I've got about 300,000 miles on it and only replaced the brake shoes a couple times. Mostly all is original. I'm still happy with it. I used it for work and play. It's solid.
