Front fuel guage problems
Front fuel guage problems
I got a 1989 F150 with dual tanks. I don't use the front tank a whole lot but I went to flip the switch to the front tank and the guage goes a long way past the full mark. I was going to change tanks cause I am getting a slight miss sometimes and thought this might help. I think the tank is plastic so I didn't ever worry about the tank rusting. I was wondering if this is the sending unit in the tank???????????
Front fuel guage problems
Yes, it is the sending unit that will cause that fuel gauge problem.

yes it is the sending unit most likely. very common problem. i have the same problem with my rear tank and have done much searching on this subject. the general consensus is that a new sending unit must be purchased (not cheap) and that the easiest way to change it is to thake the box off rather than try to drop the tank.

Rusty,
garyda,
Does your gauge drop proportionately to the distance you drive? If so then the gauge is OK. The gauge in the front tank typically reads way past the full indicator in comparison with the rear tank gauge. The last time I install new gauges, I did both tanks (pumps/sender unit) june-2000 .... $425
