Inexpensive 351W build

I recently bought a 351W off a 95 F250 to replace the one in my truck (bad head gasket, cracked heads) and I was wondering what are some inexpensive modifications I can do to it? It is my DD so my ideal numbers would be between 275-300HP. Thanks!

I want to keep it as low as possible but I would say around $1500-2000 max. and it is my daily driver with the occasional towing on the weekends(Camper and boat)

You can do alot with that. I'm building a 351w to and I'm putting gt40 heads on it a new cam I put an edelbrock performer series intake and a quadrajet on it. So I'd look at cams (around $200) rebuild kit ($120 from napa) gt40 heads ($250) performance intake. Headers. If you wanna make it a 393 stroker it'd $1200 for the kit. If your not going carburated like I am there's a bunch of electrical stuff you can do. But performance plugs and wires. Port and polish heads. That's all I can think of right now.. I'll let you know if I think of something else

Alright thanks! Yeah I've heard that the 351W cams are crap, especially in mine since its an 89 and it has the flat tappet cam, the motor i bought was off a 95 F250 which means its a roller motor right? Are those good or should i still look towards aftermarket cams?

This is the cam I will be ordering and this is the cheapest place I've seen it. I talked directly to comp cams and they said this is the best one for my use (moderate off road, farm work, daily driving, loads of torque, and when you hammer it it'll smoke the tires off)http://www.camshaftwarehouse.com/Product/1371/COMP-CAMS-256-XTREME-CAMS-AND-LIFTERS-KIT.aspx

Not trying to thread hijack but what do long tube headers do with the gt40 heads?

Longtube headers produce more low and high rpm gains than shorties.. regardless what heads are used.

My guess is the cost to build them. Compare pictures of long tube Vs short. I swear if I had to build shorties I'd be in the loony bin after the first set.

Well I guess that makes sense....I have to say I wouldn't exactly like making a pair of shorties... I think long tubes look better on these trucks anyway... I love how I can see my longtubes from sticking out below the truck

When I changed to the 1.7 rockers and longtubes it made a drastic improvement. I'm very happy with the performance and I pull a 20 foot trailer alot
