Question Steering ? & and jerking problem

I have another couple questions for you experts out there about my 96 Eddie Bauer Bronco.
As I come to a complete stop (normal conditions) I can feel a jerk in the Bronco somewhere. Then when I start to roll, there is another jerk, kinda like there is some slack somewhere where there shouldn't be. The brakes and bearings are good, u-joints seem OK. I can't tell if it's in the front or rear, or in-between.

Also, I'm getting some play in the steering. Like maybe a couple inches of travel in the steering wheel before the wheels turn.

Could these two be related??? Any Ideas???

Thanks in advance.

Jim

Steering ? & and jerking problem

ball joints, rod ends, bushings
also try the checking the ujoints and c-v head no load or out of verihcle
well jeff's bronco graveyard(R.I.P.) doesn't seem to have the rebuild kits for your rig(only to 86 but cv(head, collar seal ball & spring, also seal set) and u-joints are available
given the cheap/light duty materials that went into newer broncos it could be everything or anything
but the bushings are a suspect spot and there are so many more in a indipentant susp so this will cost you
then there are bad rotors or loose rear brakes
or it could just be a tranny thiing automatic obviously

have fun

Thanks Battered_Bronco. That's what I was thinking too. I guess I just wanted to confirm it. Now it's time to find a good front end man around here.

Thanks again

Steering ? & and jerking problem

Hello!
I recently had what sounds like the same problem. What you call a "jerk" when stopping and starting I was feeling a "thud". I thought it was U-Joints or rear-end.
Took it to the local Ford dealership and it turned out to be the Slip Yoke Joint.........alls they did was "grease" it and it is now fine!!! Cost about $70 at dealership.

ya went to get my first sticker on my 78 in thesnow and boom clunk clunk clunk
front shaft let loose no warning sounds thuds etc
but not that it helps much here but the most common on old ones is a thud coming from the control(large beam from frame froward to axle) bushings when u stop or begin(less more in 4wd) it pounfs your cont arm into the mount or less often c-bushings
hey but new ones must have s-thing simular

but did u check the u-joints yourself by getting under n chacking 4 movement. be cause needs to be checked "no load" or in the air
the cv gives u a good pain and when it lets go it goes big more often than not dragging the back of the drive shaft is bad and expensive but imagine if u would the front(of the rear driveshaft) digging in like a big lever in the ground weeeeeee!

btw any clicking sounf going on turn the radio down and if city folk may have to do it at night found 3 am pretty good while i was in the city
