It is hard to get a clear picture of the adapter. The transmissions are not the same from 97-08. I know the internal parts have changed but I think the housing may be the same on the trannys. I read on a forum that my computer will not be able to control the tranny if I swap them. If you know different please let me know. The 08 donor vehicle tranny has only 10K on it vs my 97 which has 130K. Thanks for your time

that is what i mean, i dont understand why they "are different"
i really think everyone is telling you they are different because one is a 4 wheel drive case, and the other is a 2 wheel drive case.
a 2 wheel drive does not have anywhere to bolt a t-case to. a 4 wheel case has a flange on the tailshaft to bolt the t-case to.
i really can't see where there could be that much of a difference in the gearing inside the case.

even if it is just a computer issue, i do not see why one of the transmission specialty shops could not get you a computer to make the new trans work on the old engine.
they make stand alone computers to do all kinds of things in trucks that never had a computer, or to work on carburated engines without any computer controls.

ive been saying this the entire thread!!!!

Yes, looking back you did mention that pathfinder made an adapter. This adapter is a Quigley made part. I just don't know if it will bolt up to my tranny. I don't know if the 2wd output shafts and bolt locations are the same between trannys. the 97 has the E40D and the 08 has the 5R110W

Dumb question, but have you tried contacting Quigley and asking them your questions? Seems like that would be the easy route instead of groping around in the dark....

yes, Quigley could not offer any info. I believe it is a legal issue with safety and contracts with Ford. I don't know any quigley mechanics. I wish I could get lucky and find one on here.

Looking at their website, there is a Quigley dealer in Scarsdale, NY. Don't know how close that is to you, but you might contact them and see if they could do whatever it is you are needing done?

Thanks, I'm on long island. Not too close to scaresdale. Also, that's just a dealer that stocks quigley vans. The conversions are done elsewhere.

So the dealers don't device what they sell? There's also a dealer in Mendham, NJ. If it were me, I would at least call them....just my 2 cents

let me get a retired ford transmission engineer over to read this thread, maybe he will confirm what i am thinking that the 08 trans will work with your 97 engine with just a computer change.

I *THINK* the '97 V10 had a different bolt pattern on the rear of the block. It's been about 15 years so I don't know if that memory is good or not.

Let's assume I'm wrong and the bolt patterns are the same. The trans will bolt right up. All you'll need to do is invent a computer that can control it. I don't know of ANY existing aftermarket computers that can control the 5R110 that is in the 2008 chassis.

Here is an article that I wrote that explains why this is so hard: https://www.ford-trucks.com/articles...s-a-huge-task/

PCS makes a controller for the 5R110, a friend of mine did a 12V cummins swap in an 03 F250 not too long ago.
