Some places are capturing the methane from cow poop and burning it like Natural Gas.......

In NY some of the landfills will be closing. They hope to continue selling methane to help cut their losses.

The sad thing about those wind turbines is that they don't produce enough energy to pay for themselves. By the time expense of placing them is paid for they are worn out. Out here, they are shut off if the wind is blowing over 20mph I think it is. But they make the tree huggers happy, so they got to be great, right?

It's too bad that electricity generation from wind isn't more productive. I've read a few articles stating that the ROI on turbines is 5 to 8 years, but only when taking into account the subsidies. Strip away the subsidies and it takes a looonng time to recoup the investment, if ever. I hope all these subsidies are worth it and they figure out how to make wind energy work. But they've been at this for well over 30 years. How long does it really take?
I'm an all-of-the-above energy production type. The wind doesn't always blow and the sun isn't always shining, so there has to be some other source of (reliable) energy.

Those turbines want a nice steady air flow. A few years ago, here in Patrick County, VA a company just wanted to do a study to see if wind turbines would be feasible. County wouldn't let them do a study because "windmills would ruin the beauty of the county". It's ok to throw liter all over but, no wind machines.

I had 2 turbines exactly a 1/4 mile from my home in different directions ( the minimum set back distance allowed), depending on the wind and rain you would hear them quite loud IN the house or the pole barn with the doors and windows shut. Sounded like the thumping bass of a vehicle playing music to load or a rag being snapped when it was raining.
A long story short moved out of the house and out of NY. House sat vacant, fields overgrown. I would go back once a year for a couple years to check on the place. Last time there I was thinking about renting a larger excavator to crush the house and barn, eliminate them from the tax. Lucked out if you want to call it that that one of the mega dairy farms wanted to buy the property for the fields (100+ acres land around the house). Got my asking price and told him it to happen in 2 weeks, plus sold all my equipment that was in the polebarn to him on top of the sale.
Looking back now best thing that could of happened.

Almost sounds like Geneva area. You made out pretty good on that Scraper , aside from the moving pains. Went to the wind turbines in Peterboro, NY once (near Utica) heard just a slight "whoosh"
whoosh" as the blades went around. The blades were as long as a Greyhound bus.
