1951 239 Flathead. Unbelievable till you see the attached pic "FORD TOUGH"

So as some of you know I'm restoring a 1951 F2 with 239 in it. The motor ran fairly great for literally pulling it out of a field. I drove it all summer with what seem to be just a little blow by. I checked all the cylinders and they were running between 108 to 111 psi for compression. I finally pulled the motor and began to clean it up. I found what I now know to be a typical crack from the #5 exhaust valve to the cylinder. I have went a head and continued cleaning deciding I am going to leave it be. I started painting the engine which you can see in my gallery. Yesterday however, I pulled the intake manifold of and found this inside. I was utterly shocked that this thing even ran let alone had somewhat good compression after seeing this. I have video of us driving this truck time stamped if ya don't believe after you see this. Posting this for everyone's thoughts and comments. I am amazed. Ford Tough!!!

Cotton wood inside a motor that ran fairly well.

I bet that one has never been down. Probably the original solid fixed lifters and all. Is it std bore? I've seen them that bad in the valve chamber. We must wonder how the oil gets to the pan. Show pictures of the oil pan when you remove it.

I don't think I have a pic of the oil pan when I drained and removed it. I recall though it wasn't to bad. Yes these are STD bore. I would agree this truck was never down. This motor is probably just seeing the light of day.

Reminds me of another engine, doesn't it Ray? I drove my engine for 3 years just like that. It was every bit as bad. I agree, how on earth did the oil get to the pan....

I was given a flathead by an uncle. Took oilpan off, and was FULL of mouse nest. After bead-blasting it, saw several pin holes appeared. Some of the connecting rod nuts are so corroded from the mouse pee I can't get a wrench on them. I'm afraid I will be contributing to the overpopulation of Turdotas and Crapsuns as this cracked block will be going for scrap after I remove the valves.
