95 -01 Transmission Swap Question - Please Help!!!

Is it possible to use a 1995 Ranger manual trans from a ext cab 6 cyl 4x4 and use it in a 2001 Ranger 2+2dr extended cab 4.0L SOHC to replace a shot auto trans?

- 2001 trans (55R55E) is shot and needs to be replaced
- have junk 1995 ranger with good 5spd (Mazda M50D-R1) manual trans in it
HELP!!

Update:OOPS!~ Have 95 ranger manual trans (Mazda M50D-R1)

so I'm wondering if a
Mazda M50D-R1 (from 95 ranger 4x4)
will fit and replace a
5R55E Auto Trans
in 01 Ranger 4x4 4.0L DOHC

Welcome to FTE.
I don't believe the bell housing bolt patterns match.

You said the 1995 manual trans is a V6. Which V6? There was the 3.0 V6 and the 4.0 OHV V6 offered that year. The 3.0 has a different pattern and will not work. The 4.0 OHV has the same pattern as the SOHC and will work. I think there is an extra bolt on the SOHC that the OHV didn't have (or vice versa), but it's not a big deal as long as the rest of the bolts are tight.

You will get a CEL because the PCM will be searching for tranny related items, like for example, the torque converter. I don't *think* it will have any negative consequences other than you get to look at the light; alternatively, you can get a PCM from a vehicle with a manual.
