All dana 60 rears the same width?

The reason I,m asking is, I bought a 79350 4x4. And when looking at the truck from the front or rear the front tires stick out farther than the rears. So I did some measuring with all the wheels off, and the front dana 60 diff is 2" wider than the rear. And yes all 4 wheels are the same. So that 2" difference in front translates to 1" on each side of the truck. Is this the way these trucks were sold. thanks for your thoughts.

From my understanding, yes the front axle is a couple inches wider than the back. It's still seen on newer 4x4 trucks. If it really bugs you, wheel spacers would be your solution. But there's different opinions on that. Good luck

Yes the front is a little wider on my 79 F250 with Dana 60 front. That is just the way they were.

They turn better with a smaller rear track.

Not necessarily true. Ford widened the 10.5" rear axle housing 3" in 1999 with the introduction of the Superduty pickups. I have one of those axles under the rear of my 75 and rear tires now stick out the same as the front. I believe that half ton models match nowadays too.

So that is very very interesting. Do these rear diffs have disc brakes as well, cause that is planned for the future. thanks again people.

Yes they do, but it's not a straight forward swap. The spring perches need to be relocated and the wheel bolt pattern is different.
