if you have a pic of how its supposed to look that would be great .. thx for the help if you can
i posted about this several weeks back and had no pictures. took a couple to see if you guys can tell if the mounts are correct or are they installed wrong ? original 4x4 150 351m . the guy that installed them said they wouldnt line up unless he used the spacer between the block and frame mount.
Left and right motor mounts, and perches, are different. The mounts are marked with an "R" or an "L".
I'm not sure why you would use nuts there, as the adjustment is between the mount and the perch. Actually it looks like the nuts may be just spacers because the bolts were too long, I think they are only 3/4" long.
Is your engine level left to right? Also are your mounts the same for driver and passenger side?
funny you should ask. i will try to get a pic of that as well. there is only about 1/4" clearance between headers and frame rails. i figure if it was off in either direction it would not fit at all which is why i am afraid that if i try to fix it i will break it. i cant leave well enough alone.
thanks for the info
My guess is it looks wrong to me because the spacers (nuts) under the motor mount. I would think that the motor mount metal plate should be bolted flush against the block.
Looking at the pics of that mounts you have, they can not be the correct motor mounts, because it looks like if you remove the installed spacer (nuts) the metal part of the mount will/could contact the oil pan, especially on the dvrs side.
I am thinking the same thing that the mounts look the correct thickness too, with more oil pan clearance on the right than the left. But that spacer nut is wrong for sure.
Maybe loosen the main center mount bolt (remove the nut), remove the spacer nuts and make sure the mount clears the oil pan and bolt the mount flush to the block then lower the motor overall a little bit to get the main mount nut back on, if the stud is long enough then?
A eng hoist connected the top of eng is the best way to support the motor during the change, a bottle jack and a piece of wood on the harmonic balancer is not.
hey 77&79,
thanks for the assist. i went out and did some measuring. see picture/ i have marked from the inner frame rail to lower edge of the mount closest to the pan. (on the driver side it measures approx. 7 3/4") ( on the pass side is approx 4 3/4" ). if you get the chance , can you confirm that distance on yours. if its a match then i am thinking i can break the mounts loose and remove the spacers one side at as time and see if they will drop down in the slot further.
again thanks for info.
You might be on the right track with the pedestals, the mounts look normal to me, but that doesn't mean that much. I can't see anything obvious but those nuts have no business there. Good luck.
i agree , they have no business there. im thinking in short order they will work loose.
77&79 : the dimension checks out. same as the numbers you posted. and it doesnt look like an easy task to replace them. even though we parted on less than good terms i am going to have to bite my tongue and ask him why he felt the need to do it in the first place. i may tell me to take a leap.
Thank You NumberDummy! I did order them from a parts store, and the several I went to had different numbers between same year van and trucks. This confirms what I suspected that they were wrong, despite what they told me.
I'll write these numbers down for future reference.
