74 F-100 in the Dirt
I logged back in to myspace after many, many years to see if there were any old photos in there I didn't have saved anywhere else. The new format really sucks and I thought that all my crap was gone at first. I found some that I think I have on film somewhere, but not on my computer. I dumped all the pics in a file and deleted my account. Hope y'all enjoy these...
That's my old '74 F-100. It had a 428 police interceptor (complete with car oil pan), C-6, np203, shelled out dana 44, long tube headers and dual exhaust (check out how low that pipe hangs on the drivers' side, I eventually re-did that!), 3-1/2" Rancho lift, and 33x12.50 Cooper A/T's on 15x10 AR Outlaw II's. I eventually painted the green tailgate yellow, but I guess there aren't any pics of that left. The interior was a mismatch of blue seat, green door panels, brown dash pad, and rebel flag headliner (courtesy of the PO). It has gone on to the great junkyard in the sky.
I tore a few 9" rear ends up in it, the t case was garbage, the front axle had some really sketchy mods (accident "repair"), and I ripped the steering box out of the frame in one of the pic's above. It was a "put together" job with no frame, door jamb, or door VIN #'s. There was just too much liability involved with trying to sell it. I "got all the good out of it" and had it crushed several years ago.
Some of its parts live on in other trucks today. I sure wish I had kept those Rancho springs, looking for a set now. Please check my WTB thread in my sig below, I am updating it daily...

Yeah, that yellow truck was 2wd! The PO had hit something hard with the left front tire. Apparently the spindle pulled out of the knuckle taking the threads with it. He took out the axle and put bolts thru the back of the knuckle with nuts on the spindle side. There wasn't room to put the axle shaft back in with the bolt heads in there. I did fix the knuckle with helicoils (in the parking lot at work on my lunch break one day). The whole front housing was trashed, the PO drove it a long time with the axle shaft out and the housing was full of mud, water, and rust!
When the PO hit whatever he hit, the steering box broke off the frame and broke out a triangle in the inside frame rail on the inside between the steering box bolts. It also trashed the wheel and tire. He replaced the steering box bolts with shorter ones as it was now just attached to the outside layer of the rail. After it broke again on me, I ended up boxing that back in and stop drilling and welding all the cracks. Made it drive a lot better.
Seems like there was something sketchy going on with the track bar too, but it's been a long time. It's a wonder I wasn't killed in that thing! I almost was one time due to a weird steering issue before I knew what was going on under there. Oh, to be young and dumb!
I did have the sense to crush the remains after I parted it out. Just too much liability with the hacked frame/steering/axle!
