Finding a mechanic

My guy moved outta state. I was referred to a guy. Recommended by my exhuast guy. Met and asked about the header job. Says, $150 but we'll see what we run into ? Huh? I said what is it about 2 hours .. he says says maybe more. He's done heads before but... How the heck do I know what I'm getting.. There was a guy at the shops says the mechanic in question has worked on carious trucks of his for 15 years, all good results. That inspired some confidence... What else should I ask this guy before my girl goes under the knife???

Finding a mechanic

I put headers on a 96 once and it was pretty straight forward. But your 'new' mechanic has probably put a lot of headers on many different vehicles before and has had some nightmares. Two hours is probably a pretty good guess, he was just covering himself in case bolts don't come out, or something else. Sometimes a simple job can turn bad, so he's just covering his butt.

As far as questions, just make sure you are comfortable with him and that he seems honest. Go by your gut feeling.

Two hours is fine until the first bolt breaks off in the head. Then you can start planning time in days.
