John, you have even less to be concerned with than most. I think it'll be awhile until we see sustained temps below 12°, so even if you overfill you have a few weeks to burn some of it off. I've never heard of someone who cracked their DEF tank in the 4 years I've been in the 6.7L forum.
Just don't put it in the fuel tank. I've heard of more than a few >$10K fuel system repairs after the owner mistakenly put some in the fuel. It WILL destroy your fuel system, and warranty will not cover it.

I admit I spend a little to much, but I buy the 2 1/2 gal jug at the Auto Parts store, and it comes with that pour spout that goes directly into the little tank so there is no spillage. There is very little chance of the wrong tank. But then again I'm old. lol PS your right about the temp. That's rare around here.
4:45 am, barefoot carrying a hot pan of ashes,"no gloves" open the door to the deck, take a quick step out the door and, GLARE ICE! It's a miracle I didn't break something!
My son had to drive up to the family house in upstate NY last night. They got 3 feet of snow yesterday and the power went out. Generator did not kick in, so 6 hour drive total up and back. He's the family electrician.
So we should start seeing snow soon. How soon? Soon.
In other news, I ordered my dad a new stereo, dash kit and wiring harness for christmas, I'm gonna install it after christmas, the dash hit showed up with a broken tab, called amazon, they refunded my money, and I don't have to **** it back, I am just going to bond the tab back on
It's Friday, and the end to a wet week. I guess I'll have to wash and vacuum the truck to get all the white salt off today. The weekend should be nice according to the weatherman.
Since it's not raining I am going out and check the oil, transmission, and coolant levels. Air pressure in tires. put in the cow **** last night.
I've got one of those Xtang bed covers for two seasons and all of a sudden the end near the cab is lifting. So I took it apart and noticed a slide that holds it to the bed was bent, so my son and I made a heavy duty slide out of steal then adjusted the cover. Will see if this works.

Just so you know, Extang has a lifetime warranty on the frame and hardware. I've had a couple of problems with my last cover and the one on my dad's truck. In both cases it took one phone call for replacement parts to be in the mail at no charge. If you have problems down the road just give them a call and they'll take care of it.
