Help! I need to get Auto insurance for my Bronco ASAP before a big trip. My present insurance was temp and is designated Antique and only 100 miles left on 2500 mile limit
My 73Bronco is my daily driver and only vehicle I own. It is stock "unmodified" no lift.
I need stated/agreed value insurance of around 15k, for damage (tree accident etc) and theft (had other cars stolen twice in Atlanta). Unlimited mileage. Towing OK.
I have been screwed big time by insurance company (Chub) after theft/total of my last car (nonBronco). Actually used smudge on date on receipt to claim I altered it and denied claim.
All generic companies I have called (Allstate, etc) will only insure for Blue Book Cash Value and depreciated (around 500 bucks) I have called Hastings Grundy Classic Car Insurance they will not insure because it is a daily driver and I put too many miles on it, also they will not insure if you use i for towing.
Anyone have a good company they can recommend. I am not sure i will have time to get a car appraiser out before I leave. please Help it will be greatly appreciated!!
I use Pemco at the moment. When I told them I wanted full coverage on my Bronco they simply asked what it was worth.
I told em 5k, which is probably undervaluing it now. It seems like finding a 5k Bronco with a non-rusty body is almost impossible in Washington.
One thing I've learned about insurance is that the agents sometimes have leeway. I had a bad agent who would only insure me for a 2 million (property, vehicle, personal) liability policy on my POS Chevy Luv. Later on I found a different agent for the SAME company that did me for the minimum.
Anyway, you may want to check around and see if you can find an agent who is in to classic cars and the like. If they can't hook you up, maybe they know who can.
I've had good service from Nationwide. Every vehical I've ever owned has had a stated value policy and they've never given me a hassle about it. And the policy doesn't carry any limitations on it either (for example, towing or mileage).
My suggestion would be carry liability on the truck and bank the difference. It wont take too long to build up enough in the account to cover any damage that you may cause. If the accident is not your fault then the other drivers policy will pay for repairs.
One question I have though is if you are hit, will the other party's policy cover full value or blue book? Ofcourse if you live in a "no-fault" state then you are screwed to begin with.
I have too have full coverage I cant afford to bank the difference and the potential for having the car stolen or hit by a tree is very real, if it was stolen totaled by act of god I would lose my precious Bronco, Trust me if someone else hits me they WILL pay for it, I have every receipt ever, plus potos, I am mainly worried about Theft, Act of God (tree etc) or uninsured driver. I have at least 15k invested in truck
I have received good suggestions from FTE and other forums. I will contact some of these agencies. I will of course follow up once I find something
I am pretty sure that you can pay extra to get the truck's actual worth insured at one or more of the regular companies. If you were going to try to sell it today, what do you realistically think you could get for it? What about getting it appraised to get it in writing?
If you can put in a four wheel brake lock by www.brakelock.com. Installed correctly it makes it almost steal proof. I live in the Atlanta area and I have had good luck with GEICO for low rates. Even though they are a big company, you might be able to work something out and get the lowest rate. Especially with a good driving record.
