just picked up a 95 f250 with 5.8L 144k on it. did head gaskets and all related gaskets. Added 1.7RR and LT headers with full exhaust. Replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and coil. Truck runs good with the exception of having a bad 4x4 switch so my low range light is always on. has a slight miss at idle, not sure why.
Now to why I am here... I got a code 213 Spout switch open in KOER. It seems to be intermittent. Doesn't matter if it is hot or cold. The truck will bog down and wont rev and will ping at times. Others it wont. Happens after restarting almost every time, but if im on the highway and floor it, it runs like a raped ape. After running for awhile, it doesn't do it at all and will run normally. Shut it down and restart it, problem comes back. Any ideas on where to start?
Pull the PCM out and inspect it for blown caps or anything else obvious, and before you put it back in probe the spout wire from the PCM to the TFI for an intermittent connection.
Pulled the ecu apart. Found what looked like a burnt connection on one of the caps. Ill post pics tomorrow and you can let me know what you think. I had a spare from a 96 with ac if that matters, but I put it in along with a new ignition module and it seems to be doing the same thing. Will not know for sure until I take it on a better test drive. I didn't have my meter with me, but will look into the wiring tomorrow. The ignition module actually tested bad at advanced... kind of suprised me. I've never had one actually fail on one of their machines and knew they were bad.... ill let you know how it runs tomorrow and get a couple drive cycles in and pull codes again
The new one is black in color. There's a different problem now. Sort of. It still boggs down, but if I get on it, it runs like it should. At part throttle, it hunts for a steady rpm. I'm going to pull trouble codes when I I get home and see what's going on. I'm bringing my meter home to check the spout path. What pins am I checking that at?
Still getting the 213 spout open. 4x4 switch and thermactor codes are irrelevent. Smog stuff has been removed, all vac lines capped and holes in the heads plugged. My low range light is always on so there's those. All I need to focus on is thr 213. Ill be checking the spout wire soon. What are the specs for this line? Ohmatic value with it unplugged or plugged in? Ill read up on old fuelinjection.com and check it out
just checked for continuity of pins 2 on the icm and 36 of the pcm connector. I had .2 ohms on that line. checked ohmatic value of pin 2 of the icm to ground with pcm unplugged and found that it had 6.03K ohms. I believe that this number is supposed to be over 10k. what could this mean? I verified that the ignition was advancing with the spout connected and at idle and while revving, the ignition advanced. now how can the spout circuit be open if it is working properly? unless under load the spout signal is dropping out somehow... thoughts?
I picked up a haynes manual. I'm going to do the tests they have in there and hopefully see what's going on. Mabe the distributor has a bad ground on the PIP? Idk. I have a spare from a parts truck. Ill see if I can just stab it in there and see if anything changes. I don't think the PIP has much to do with the spout circuit, if anything, but this issue is driving me nuts and its my only vehicle and I'm not trying to burn a hole in a piston from detination…
