missing during normal take off
During take off, it misses but does fine after it shifts out.
the shaft in the distributor has play side to side.
IT WAS RUNNING LIKE THIS BEFORE I PUT THESE PARTS ON IT AND THEY DID'NT HELP.
I pulled the line off the vacuum advance and it runs a little smoother but it seems to have lost some power.
IS MY DISTRIBUTOR BAD?
Can anyone help me with this problem?
THANKS, KLANG

You are describing a lean fuel condition usually caused by a bad accelorator pump. Rebuild your carb, or at least, the accelerator pump. Max out the linkage if you have mutiple points to choose and see if it doesn't take care of that nasty cough.
EDIT:
Secondly,
Your timing may be off. Too far advanced.

Get your fender mounted ignition module tested when you go to the store for a new distributor. If you need a new ignition module only get a Motorcraft replacement module even if they try to sell you some other lifetime guarantee unit. You will be replacing other brands of aftermarket modules annually and they will give you fits and bad gas mileage each time they fail. It is not worth the time and effort even with the guarantee. Mount the Motorcraft ignition module back on the fender with 1/4" spacers to allow cooling air under it.
You can get Motorcraft modules at Oreilley's and other stores, call around to locate one. The other brands are junk.
