sterling 10.25 help!!
I found a sterling 10.25 (I believe that's what it is) from an 1986 f350 dually. Housing Vin is V166A- 3.55 10 2 5L12. Is that the same housing as the one in my 1997 f350 dually? Will it direct bolt in and fit? Vin on my 97 is S 169 S- 4L10 10 2 6H01? Please help. The ladies computer system says only 1987 and up will fit my truck.

If both trucks are a cab and chasis, or both left the factory with a pickup bed installed they will swap. The C&C axles are narrower and will not fit the pickup box trucks. The 86 will have the short pinion, the 97 will have the long pinion. I'm not sure if the u joint size is the same, but I think it is.

IIRC the ujoint is a different size. You can get a conversion ujoint but there is another kind of issue. With the pinion being shorter your driveshaft will pull out of the slipjoint another 1/2 inch or so. Check and make sure that will work. I had the same style of axle I put under mine when I did the dually conversion, but i tore it down and put all new bearings in it and used the ring and pinion from my 97 axle so I didn't have to deal with that.
