Big puddle of fuel under truck
OK. This one has me baffled. I filled up the truck a couple of nights ago. Maybe I overfilled some. Only drove a few miles and parked it at home in my gravel/dirt driveway.
Next morning (it was a cold morning and cool evening), noticed the smell of gasoline being pretty strong. There was a area where it appears a significant amount of fuel had spilled onto the ground underneath the fuel filler. I could feel where fuel had ran down the side of the truck underneath the fuel cap.
Now, I can understand fuel sloshing out going around a turn or something (even though that should not happen with a properly functioning gas cap which I don't know that I have), but I don't comprehend how it can do what it did.
I have a solid fuel line from fuel tank to fuel pump, with one splice (compression fitting/union) and no sign it leaked.
Since then have parked it several places and have made a point to see if any signs of fluid is underneath the truck. None.

While you were standing looking it over did you happen to remove the gas cap to see how high if any in the filler neck ? If cap leaks you'll see some gas wet age on the lips of the rubber seal if the gas expanded pushing some out.. And look for any little cracks from dry rot that will cause the seal to leak also..

Well I started to stick a lighter down in the fuel neck and see how high it was (:
No, I had over filled, I know, but on a cool or cold day, would not have expected a whole lot of expansion. However, that morning, I could not tell how high up it was (5:45 a.m. on the way to work).
I have a new hose from filler to tank (but it is the wrong type - not tapered - so it relies on clamp power). I thought about getting one of those locking gas caps that I know will seal better than mine.
Will just be more careful on not topping off. And perhaps the amount of gasoline on the ground was not that substantial and just covered a larger area because of the moist ground. Stinks like heck still. Going to be grabbing a couple of bags of soil to throw over it.
