So a line of panic stops on the highway last night and I lost - stopping an 8000lb rig compared to hondas, nissans, etc.
Anyway I just kissed the corner of a nissan xterra and dented the steel part of my front bumper below the driver headlight. Nothing else. It is a 2002 all black limited.
I am wondering about fixing vs. buying a new bumper. A new one from the dealer is 436 and then needs to be painted. Does anyone have any experience with the cheaper aftermarkets? Quality vs. cost?
I wonder about the labor with pounding mine out and then filling and sanding vs. a new one.
Ok, pounding it out.... not going to happen, good luck. You know what it takes (weight wise) for those to be stamped out at the factory? Just go with a chrome one and be done. Or better yet, just upgrade
Hi all, So a line of panic stops on the highway last night and I lost - stopping an 8000lb rig compared to hondas, nissans, etc. Anyway I just kissed the corner of a nissan xterra and dented the steel part of my front bumper below the driver headlight. Can you post a picture of it? If it's where I'm thinking - on the angled edge, it'll be a bit of a PITA to get the dent out yourself due to the creased edge. Nothing a body dolly and hammer set won't fix, just a little time on your behalf. Bumper comes off easily to check, one bolt in each front fender and then the two on either side of each tow hook. Don't forget the foglights harnesses!
I used a cheap eBay rear bumper replacement on mine a while back. You could tell the difference vs OEM when handling and inspecting the backside but once installed, I don't think there was any difference in the durability, fit, or appearance of it. It installed easily and everything lined up as it should. I would have no hesitation in buying another if I had to.
Thanks bud. I'm 98% certain if you drop the bumper you can push those out yourself. If nothing else, lay it front down on a blanket in the yard and step on it gently increasing your weight until you feel/hear it pop back. While not paper thin, the bumper isn't wicked thick either.
Yeah. I think I can at least get it close. Then take it to get painted. Hey - at least all the rock chips on the rest of the bumper will get taken care of.

It's probably in here somewhere I can't find, just point me in the right direction. What mods have to be done to upgrade the bumper lights and grill. I know the header has to be modified for the grill thanks.

Actually the header needs some cutting to fit '05-'07 style lights, the header can remain unmolested if just swapping in a grille from the same years, only thing needed for the grille (with leaving the '00-'04 bumper) is the grille itself needs a little bit of trimming off the bottom to fit correctly. For how cheap those frontend parts Apoc linked to are, I would look to also find an aftermarket header panel to complete the swap.
Please don't waste your time trimming the header panel, just buy the right one. I spent 45 minutes cutting that fiberglass ******* before saying screw it and dropping the $75 for the panel.
