The Windsor family all uses the same mounts -- 221 thru 351W, the 351C also uses the same mount as the above. The 335s use the mount with a "triangular" bolt pattern on the block.
So the mounts off a 302 will fit? I'm gonna try to put a 351 C in a 78 150 4wd that now has a 300-6. I know the trans will fit, but where do I find a flywheel?
Oops! Sorry about that 300 I6 reference. (I was thinking of bell housings and typing about motor mounts.)
302, 351W, and 351C use the same engine mount attachment to the block, but the actual engine mounts varied by vehicle application and year. Apparently, the position of the engine mount brackets on the frame varied.
I've heard you can use the 302 engine mounts to swap a 351C in the late '70s trucks. The current service part number for the '78 truck 302 engine mount is E4TZ-6038-H.
I don't see how a person could interchange the mounts between the 351M and the Cleveland. They bolt to the block in entirely different places, with different bosses at different angles. Unless someone welded up some kind of dicombobulated brackets.....
Actually, Ford did install the 302C and 351C in F-Series trucks in Australia and New Zealand. The F-100 was built here final assembled there in RHD and used Aussie sourced Clevo's until 1982. I have a 351C in my Falcon that came from a F-100.
But in the US, you are correct, Ford US never installed a 351C in a F-Series.
Guess I need to fess up and tell you that it is not in my truck but in my 70 mustang that the 351M lives. (I hope that you will not hold it against me)
I am not sure how he did it but when I looked, over the weekend, the mounts are the C type with 2 screws in the pasengers side mount and 1 in the drivers side mount. At this point I am assuming that he drilled/tapped bolt holes into the block to avoid finding the correct mounts.
On a positive note he did find the correct bell housing for the FMX transmission.
I know some of the parts for an M and a C will swap, but i'm not sure which ones... I read somewhere that the M crank is about 15 pounds heavier than the Cleveland. I take it then that the flywheel off an M won't work on a C? Does anyone know what cars/ years that the Cleveland was put in with and auto, so i know what to look for.
Thanks,
