75 F350 build/first post

Hi, sorry if I missed something when I registered on my phone about there being a specific place to make your first post, but here goes.

Got a "free"(as in trade/labor) 75 f350 Rwd DRW. It currently has a 390/4speed in it, needs some work, but will see life mainly as a derby car hauler and partial daily driver. I also have a 95 ranger waiting on a t5 for a 5.0 swap, reg cab short box 2wd, and a 73 road runner that is getting the engine trans and wiring from a 94 ram 1500 I traded for this ford.

As mentioned truck is a 75 F350, 390 FT 2v, whatever 4 speed is behind it, dually, and has a flat bed. Right now it can pull my 32' trailer, but is very sluggish and no matter loaded or unloaded is a binge drinker.

After the deal was sealed, I decided I wanted to swap in a diesel this spring. So it was down to a 7.3 turbo or 5.9 Cummins. I'm a Mopar guy, but love fords also and the availability for swap parts and stuff for the 5.9 24valve made me set on that engine with a nv4500 trans. Other mods include led tail lights to match my trailer, a 78-9 grille unless there's a ton of moding involved, and paint. As soon as I start tinkering I will post pictures

Welcome to FTE.

You'll want to review co425's 'betty turns oil burner' thread.

390 ='s binge drinker, you are not driving a Prius, ya know. lol A tune up might help with the MPG a little.

"78-9 grille, unless there's a ton of moding involved", that statement make me think the diesel swap is going to really bother you then. lolx2

But no worries, the grill swap is way easier than the diesel swap. All you need is the 78/79 outer grill shell the middle insert and the complete head light buckets. Swap the outer shell and drill 4 new holes in the radiator core support to mount the new buckets and there you go.

Here is a link to that job.

As far as the diesel, just drop it in......like this guy did.

Welcome to FTE, have fun, take pics. Since you are putting that 5.0 in the lil Ranger, the diesel should be that same, just on a grander scale.

Lol the fabrication for the engine isn't horrible to me, but what I meant on the grille thing is I didn't want to have to hack a bunch of stuff up, cause I'm typically horrible at body work lol. Most of my body work is on cars that are at the end of the road using sawzalls and sledgehammers. Thanks guys.

I'm planning on a 7.3 Powerstroke swap for a dent. After looking at both frames and a little measuring, I decided to buy a complete 96 F250 and swap my cab on to that chassis. I looked at a 12v Cummins swap, but, you either have to convert to front steer or cut the oil pan.

75 to 78/79 outer grill shell is as easy as copy and paste, and I believe the dimples in the core support are there to drill for the different mounting holes for the square headlight buckets.

Remove the bumper first....swap the outer grill, shell then drill for the buckets.

Pop open the hood, remove the top row hdwr, up inside the fender on each side is a row of bolts, take out the side marker light on the fender to get and easy eye on the very top bolts.

Do not take the top row of fender bolts loose.

75 has round headlights and 78 can be round and or then the 79 squares. You might just be able to remount the 75's buckets and get the round 78 headlight bezels...for with the 78/79 grill shell.

Get the correct bezels to match what ever headlights you use, round or square, to make sure you are only drilling the holes once.
