Dennis Carpenter Ford parts sells floor panels for your 66 truck. you can order a catalog for about four bucks. I was really impressed with their selection. Also, another company Kansas (i'll look up the name later, even sells power steering kits for the 61-66 ford trucks! Its about time

Why is '61-66 the best?

A company sells a power steering kit for unibody's?!?!?!?!?!? That's something I'd like to know more about myself. Today I yanked some parts of a '64 for my '62. Does that make it a '63? I"m trying real hard to love my truck - I paid too much for it, but the body is in good shape. I prefer the 48-50's, but these are my next favorites - I just love the way the stepside boxes sit a bit taller than those other guys; gives them a better working truck look in my eye. But what I like about it, whether it sounds like it or not, is the fact that I finally have a project again, and I'm using my meager mechanical abilities to make something really cool. I don't see a lot of these in Spokane, but now and again a smoothie will pass on the road - usually in need of some work, but it's a hoot to see anyway.

There are actually quite a few 61-66's still running around in this area - we're holding our own against all the chevys! I've always liked the lines, and there is a bonus that they aren't quite as old so they are cheaper to buy, plus parts availability is a little better (at least when it comes to mechanical stuff, new body parts are iffy, but junkyard stuff is easy enough to find) and they are 'just' old enough not to worry about any emissions testing... free reign to play with anything on the truck your heart desires!

Two other people I work with own one (a 65 and a 66), although none of us drive them regularly - Mine is my primary 'cage', but I ride a motorcycle most of the time to save money. It's kinda fun when we all happen to drive them on the same day tho - If the others are up there when I happen to drive mine for kicks I'll park on the other side of the building just to put them all in a row; it makes quite a contrast to all the mini-vans and Accords in the lot... I wonder how many of those will still be around in 35-40 years?

I love mine because it is a kind of family deal. I got my first car at 13. Dad and I restored a 1965 mustang. Then, I found about every add-on improvement i could think of... disc brakes from a Granada, 351W, T-5, Pony interior. Thus, I became partial to the 1960's Fords. Now, I am 21 and my grandpa offered his 1966 F100 up for adoption because it wasnt running and needed TLC. My wife and I brought it home purring like a kitten (after many, many frustrating, fruitless trips to grandpa's to make it run). My great grandpa bought the truck brand new in 1966 so it is famous in the family. Anyway, to make a long story short, I love my truck. My wife doesnt even want to touch it because it is "dirty" but I love it. I'm going to significantly improve the running gear first (power steering, power disc brakes and of course a big block) and then I'm off to making the body shine. Over all, it is a pretty straight truck, having only one small dent on the body. I love it and I think it is beautiful. Great grandpa would be proud to see his old truck look new again!
