Mazda or ZF?

If its a ZF, there will be a data label on the side that has the model number, and it will also say its made by ZF. However it is probably not a ZF- I don't think Ford offered it in half tons. I believe that they did make a ZF to fit smallblocks, because Ford offered a "heavy Duty" trans option in the F-250- at least they did in 1988, and the base engine in a 250 in 1988 was a 351w.

Mazda or ZF?

The ZF was in all F-250s with a 300-6, 351W, 460 and diesel. The Light duty F-250s had the 302 and Mazda tranny. The only thing I dont like about small block ZFs is the internal Slave cylinder. I have heard that Ford did have an external slave ZF for small blocks but wasnt around long.

I believe around 95 The ZF changed for the better with higher torque ratings and better reliability.

Mazda or ZF?

Look at the tranny case. On the Mazda POS the reinforcing ribs run vertically anf horizontally. On the ZF they run diagonally
