Update Oct. 24/2014 thread "Running Terrible
Left for California for winter drove 1500 miles ran perfect, got the same fuel mileage as when new (18mpg), spend 2 nights on the road. Arrived in Ca. on a Monday night.
On Tuesday got up went out to get groceries etc., started up drove a few 100 feet and started to run terrible just like before just enough power to get it off the road. Fooled around with it as previously, left it for a while no luck. Scanned it with my Edge Evolution got a 1316 error code with the note "no description in data base search the internet" Towed to Ford dealership.
I quote from my invoice "348774 injector loom 3.00 checked and found the engine only running on 4 cylinders. The drivers side was out. Found the #8 was the hard or present fault. Removed the valve cover, found the loom shorted esp. when the glow plugs were commanded on. Replaced the gasket and small injector wire loom. Retest the next morning. No other fault is showing up at this time". I had a talk wit the mechanic afterwards and he expressed some concern about the #8 injector and also mentioned something about the IDM. I have looked very closely at the wiring loom that was removed and can not see any obvious signs of shorting but I have not snapped the actual plug open. Truck has been running perfect ever since I got it back a week ago.
Here's my problem. If a new made in China injector wire loom can go that quickly what is to stop the 2 others from going out tomorrow or next week? Now about the #8 injector. Phoned a friend who owns a certified bonified injection shop (has done work for me before on other equipment) and explained the above to him. He was quite familiar with my story from previous experience. He said to rule out the injector as they either go out completely or work. He mentioned the CPS and IDM as possible issues if it's not the wiring. So took the truck back to Ford and told them to replace the CPS and IDM. The bill came to 1700.00 the biggest expense being the IDM (new improved version) at 1045.00 and they kept my old one in lieu of a 135.00 core charge. To be fair they also looked after another small problem at the same time.
So after 2300.00 dollars do I have a truck I can count on to take me another 2000 miles to my destination in Mexico and back? I will be driving locally for the next 3 weeks but won't really be putting too many miles on it. Comments appreciated!
Sorry for the length.
