Torque Spec

Can someone tell me what the torque spec for the valve cover are on a 400 Thanks John

Tight but not so tight that you make the gasket squish out from under the cover ..

Torque Spec

Official spec is 3-5 ft lbs. You should re-torque several times until the gasket stops compressing.

Torque Spec

If you are using sheet metal covers make sure the flanges are flat with a little concave dimple at each bolt hole. The dimple will flatten out as the bolt is tightened. It helps spread the load and avoid gasket "squish out". You can make the dimples with a socket, ball bearing, and a gentle tap from a hammer. -Wear eye protection.
