I notice when I excelerate sometimes I hear a Put, put, put. Say that really fast and you see what I mean. It sounds like its comming from the passanger side. I assume it's an exhaust leak? thanks
I have a similiar sound upon heavy acceleration. It kind of sounds like an exhaust leak but also kind of sound like its coming out of the head. I've convinced myself it gets louder at the end of an oil change which leads me to believe valve train noise. I've convinced myself to be wrong before so whats the best way to trace an exhaust leak around the headers? Is there a method similiar to using WD-40 to find vacuum leaks? My exhaust is new after the headers and the sound is the same as before.
If you have an EFI engine look at the AIR INDUCTION MANIFOLD that runs along the passenger side of the head just above the exaust ports there are 6, 3/8 pipes that come from a 1" tube running the length of the head. The tubes screw into the head just above the exhaust port and inject air into the exhaust flow. The tubes can rot or break loose from the main tube and cause an exhaust leak, that is heard only while the engine is under load. You could also have a hole in the EGR tube from the EGR valve to the exhaust manifold. These exhaust leaks only show up when there is pressure in the exhaust system.
