Freeze Plugs

I have 91 explorer that has 144,000 miles on Today again Blew a freeze plug (3rd time in 4years ) Has anyone else had this problem ? Any suggestions on how to keep this from happening ?

Is it the same freeze plug each time? Did it "blow out" or rust out? They are old enough to rust out, especially if the coolant is not flushed and replaced on a regular basis.

Freeze Plugs

I had all 6 replaced in November this time is was just 2 One came out completely and the other just was leaking. Now shop is telling me I need to replace the head gasget and or replace the engine because it is now running hot and the compresion is not right . I'm getting a second opinion. I'm wondering if It was not done right to begin with . Thanks

In my opinion, and that's all it is, they were not properly installed if one of them popped out. If you had a overheated engine than it is posible you lost a head gasket A compression check can help varify that.
